So get ready because I’m about to walk you through the exact steps to follow to create a quiz that will skyrocket your email list growth and Instagram engagement.
A quiz is one of the best methods to turn Instagram followers into subscribers while you sleep—and no, I’m not talking about an Instagram sticker poll.
With Instagram’s latest updates, it’s easier than ever to share a full-fledged quiz with your audience. So hop on board today, and take advantage of this quick-growth quiz strategy to boost your brand and ensure long-term progress—instead of a plummet.
Do I really need an email list when I have Instagram followers?
I’m so glad you asked!
In my last post, I outlined the reasons and benefits of growing and nurturing a newsletter email list for your business. So be sure to check it out if you want to know what you’re missing out on if your strategy is to simply focus is on growing your Instagram followers.
(It’s risky at best.)
To sum it up, it’s important to send newsletters for a few reasons:
to build this key area of marketing and engage with your audience
in case you need to rely on your newsletter to reach your audience someday
to tap into business growth you couldn’t otherwise reach without one
The Instagram platform isn’t guaranteed.
Instagram could change. Again. Or go down altogether. While it might seem unlikely, what would happen to your business if Instagram went dark? Even for just a week? We’ve seen it happen for several hours or a day here and there recently. How much income would you lose out on in the short-term? And what about the long-term?
Your audience could sign off of social media.
People take extended breaks from the social media scene all the time these days. It can be in pursuit of a digital detox or to have fewer distractions in their day or for countless other reasons. I bet many of your followers have gone dark on the gram from time to time to take a break. And some have likely disappeared forever.
If you’re relying on Instagram to reach your customers and clients or to make your monthly income, you are taking a HUGE risk for your business. And a completely unnecessary one, too.
Now that we’ve outlined a few reasons why you should grow an email list and send regular content to those subscribers with a newsletter, let’s talk about why a quiz is the perfect way to make that happen!
But why create a quiz as a newsletter opt-in?
A quiz is one of the best ways to grow your email list because it does the hard work for you and works on autopilot round the clock. All it takes is a little up-front time investment, and you’re good to go.
This makes it a great option as an email list growth strategy since it doesn’t require any ongoing tasks once it’s in place.
A quiz is an ideal platform to…
connect on a fun, exciting, and personalized level
boost engagement and increase Instagram shares
funnel your followers into email subscribers while you sleep
utilize a lead magnet with a high conversion rate
It’s easier than ever to send your Instagram followers to a quiz.
Instagram recently released a new story link feature. Unlike the swipe up feature, you don’t need to wait until you have 10,000 followers before you have access to this amazing tool. Users with any number of followers can now send their story viewers to their links. About time, Instagram!
Your Instagram audience is already used to taking quizzes.
Inviting your Instagram audience to take a new, more dynamic type of quiz will likely be exciting for your followers. They’re used to seeing quizzes on the social media platform, and it’s always fun when something is new or different. Since they’ve become comfortable taking quizzes, they are more likely to try yours out.
It doesn’t take much time to create a quiz, and the ROI is HUGE.
If you feel like you are already maxed out, have too much on your plate, or don’t have time to figure out all the steps to create a quiz, picture this:
If all you do is create a one-and-done quiz to automatically flow your instagram followers into email subscribers…
And if you just create one simple piece of content that you send to your followers via email each week…
Then, your problem is solved; you will no longer rely on Instagram as the sole communication between you and your audience.
If you can do these two things, you can sleep more soundly at night knowing that your business is not completely reliant on the good graces of the Instagram platform.
How to Create a Full-Size Quiz to Turn Your Instagram Audience into Newsletter Subscribers
Now for the fun part! I use the Interact platform to build and create all of my quizzes. It’s super quick and easy to use, and you can have your quiz up and running in no time.
You can share it all across your Instagram, on your website, and more because with various ways to embed and share, you can place your quiz just about anywhere.
This means you can repurpose your quiz in all of the places you are active on social media and the web to grow your newsletter. Talk about a multi-use time-saver.
I have an in-depth step-by-step tutorial on how to create your first quiz if you’d like even more guidance while creating your content and building your quiz.
1. Determine Your Quiz Topic
To figure out what topic you will base your quiz on, think about the overlap of your brand and your audience’s desires. That’s your quiz’s sweet spot.
What is your brand all about, and what does your audience love? Take a look at your best performing posts and content. What is so lovable or sharable about it? What made people view it over and over again and tell their friends about it?
Consider the format, too. Is your top content mostly reels, stories, posts, or something else?
You want your quiz topic to mesh well with what already performs on Instagram, so start by diving into your top-notch content to be sure your quiz follows suit.
This will help you keep your quiz ideas relevant to your brand’s Instagram audience and what your followers would like to learn about themselves.
2. Choose Your Main Quiz Question
What will someone learn from taking your quiz? What enticing question will your quiz answer?
A few examples include…
What type of _______ style are you?
What’s your _______ personality?
How do you rank at _______?
What’s your hidden _______ talent?
Think about your industry and niche to determine what type of quiz questions would resonate with your followers and fit your brand.
3. Create Your Quiz Content
This is the step where it’s time to get strategic, clever, and creative to make your quiz dreams come true. To jump right in, your quiz’s content will be made up of two main parts:
a. The questions and options
b. The answers and solutions
Coming up with the content of your quiz can be a bit tricky, but thankfully, I’ve outlined the process into two fail-proof steps.
The secret to creating a quiz is this: you’re going to create it backwards.
The best way to figure out the actual content of your quiz is to begin at the finish line and work your way back to the start. This is because it’s easier to reverse-engineer the questions when you begin with the results since you already know what to aim for.
If that sounds a bit confusing, try this explanation:
The goal of your quiz is to offer some sort of insight or solution for your audience. So the answers they get at the end of your quiz are the golden nuggets. And when you determine that first, you’ll end up with a much more enjoyable and valuable quiz for your followers.
a. Outline the quiz results
What are your followers going to find at the end of your quiz? What value will they takeaway from your quiz so they’re sure to share it with friends?
b. List out your quiz questions and all of their choices.
How can you create a fun way to lead your audience through the various options that relate to your quiz topic? How will you break those options down into specific questions?
Quiz Content Creation Tip:
I recommend typing all of your quiz content in a document before you start building your quiz inside Interact. This makes it easy to write and edit your quiz as you come up with the questions and answers. And all you’ll have to do is a simple copy and paste into the program when the content is finalized ready.
4. Come up with an Enticing Title for Your Quiz
Now it’s time to determine your quiz’s catchy headline. Because you don’t want to do all of the work creating your quiz and then have no one take it simply because it sounds boring.
To create an effective title, think about your main quiz question and the insight your quiz offers.
How can you make your quiz sound life changing for your audience? If your quiz is awesome, there’s nothing wrong with a catchy title that has a little bit of clickbait.
Come up with several ways to phrase your title. It could be a question (what’s your favorite color) or a declaration (find out your favorite color). Of course, you’ll want it to be more exciting than those examples.
5. Build Your Quiz in the Interact Platform
I have an entire tutorial to show you the quiz-creation process inside Interact, so be sure to check out that post for all of the details. But here are a few key things to note.
Copy and paste your quiz content to quickly add it to Interact.
To use your quiz as an email list growth tool, you’ll want to make sure the quiz-takers have to put in their email to get their results sent to them.
6. Test out Your Quiz
Once your quiz is complete, you’ll want to do a test run. You could also reach out to your audience and ask for a few volunteers to try out something fun you’ve been working on. This way, you can get a sense for how your quiz analytics work and so on.
You want to make sure everything works before you officially make your quiz available for your audience. Your new lead magnet is now ready to start turning your Instagram followers into email subscribers. All that’s left is to tell your audience about it, which leads us to the final step.
7. Share and Promote Your Quiz
When you are ready to launch your quiz, simply copy the link from your Interact dashboard. From there, you can add a link sticker to an Instagram story, and paste in the link. You can also add it to the “link in bio” or to a landing page where your followers can take your new quiz.
If you’d also like to add your quiz to your website, you can choose the embed link that Interact provides. You can now put your quiz just about anywhere.
Promote it across your social media platforms and any relevant blog posts. You could even create a mini launch for your quiz to build up the excitement before it’s live.
Then, sit back and watch how well it converts your Instagram followers into email subscribers.
Best practices for your quiz:
Keep it simple and quick. Don’t make it too much of a workout for your audience to get through the questions of your quiz. Short and sweet often works best.
Over deliver. Make your quiz amazing enough for someone to tell their friends about it. The more followers who share their results, the more chances your quiz will spread like wildfire. Who knows, with a lot of strategy, you could end up creating the next viral quiz.
Consider the next steps. Once someone complete your quiz and subscribes to your email list to get their results, it’s time to show them what your newsletter has to offer. Give them a taste of the great content that you’ll be sending their way with a welcome email.
A quiz is one of the best methods for growing your newsletter since it’s such a fun lead magnet for your audience. The Interact platform makes it easy and straightforward to get your quiz up and running so it can do the work for you.
